See You Real Soon, WDW!!!

In Dreams Come True on May 11, 2013 at 1:33 pm

Today is our Good Bye, Mickey, See You Real Soon.  We wanted to have our photo taken in front of The Boardwalk Inn, just as we did 10 years ago.

Now, May 2013

HMD B&R Boardwalk

Then, September 2003

I did enjoy the Flower & Garden Show, however, I don’t believe the types of plants were up to the standards I’ve become accustomed!!  Next year, we’re going in March!!  In the earlier gardens, there are lots of violas and pansies.  This late, it’s too hot for those.  A personal preference, I would say.

Flower & Garden Festival, May 2013

There’s all kinds of wildlife around; sometimes you just have to slow down to see it…

Love the bunnies… last year my photo won 1st Place at work in the photography category… maybe I’ll try again!

We’ve had a great trip.  We have already made our reservations for December… Dec 10 – 15.  We had to change from 1-5 due to the fact Dec 1 is on Thanksgiving weekend & plane fares were $469 from Orland to Manchester, EACH!!!  I love going to see all the impressive holiday decorations, willing to pay a little more for a flight… but not hundreds more!!!

You know how to find us if we can help with any Disney advice…

Goofy Calls Goofy, oh, I mean Roger!

In Dreams Come True on May 9, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Our Thursday started out like any other day at Disney World…  take the bus to Magic Kingdom.  We always head over to Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blast.  Roger most generally beats me in this game.  Today I maxed out half way through the game at 999,999!!!  I waited patiently.  We played 4 games!! then went on to The Little Mermaid, then to Small World, then to Mickey’s Philharmagic.  Roger went to take a photo & realized his camera was no longer attached to his pin bag!!!  ahhh, crap.  We traced back our steps to each ride, no one had seen it.  While Roger was waiting @ the Little Mermaid, I headed down to Buzz Lightyear.  Each person said… “Did you ask ____?” then they’d walk me over to the next attendant.  No camera though…  well, we still had mine.  Each person told us to check at City Hall when we left, if it was found, it would go there.

Brenda maxed out @ 999,999, waiting for Roger to finish his game!

We enjoyed a few more of our favorite rides.  Roger went to the restroom, as he does every 10 minutes, I waited, and I waited, and I waited, which isn’t unusual, but I began to think I was waiting too long.  My phone had a missed call from Roger; as I went to call him, out he walked… this restroom has two exits… he went out the other and couldn’t find me!!!  We finally moved on to the next adventure!!

From Magic Kingdom we boarded the monorail for EPCOT.  I hadn’t seen all the flower arrangements, etc, so we went back.  This is the 20th year that the Flower & Garden Show has been running.  Each year there is something new.

We made it over to The American Adventure to listen to the Voices of Liberty.  And guess what???  Roger got a call from Goofy, wishing him a Happy Birthday!!

Roger was walking excessively slow and I also was getting hot (87 today), so we headed back for some rest & relaxation.  Imagine R&R on your vacation!!!  I’m planning to go back tonight to see the flower arrangements that will be lit  up (we’ll see!!)

Tomorrow we pack up, check our luggage and haven’t decided where we’ll go yet.  Our flight is @ 6:30… then back to reality.

P.S.  When we were leaving Magic Kingdom, we went to Lost & Found at City Hall.

I described my camera case, and the gentleman asked what kind of camera is it?

First we guessed Cannon. Then realized that was Brenda’s camera. Next was Sony. Then Brenda remembered it was a Lumix. After the guy left, she added, “So, it’s a Panasonic.”

Moments later I was reunited with my camera and camera case. The man whipped out his cell phone and pressed an AP that played, “Amazing Grace.” “I once was lost, and now am found….”

We’re In The Show!

DH Hat

The Soon To Be Disappearing Hat at Disney Hollywood

We’ve heard from one of the Disney Blogs we follow that the Sorcerer’s Hat at Disney Hollywood is being removed. Today, we were at the front of the line (of course!) and asked the Cast Member about that, and he confirmed it was going. Seems it blocks the view of the Grummond Chinese Theater. It will be relocated to the front area before entering the park.

While we were waiting to get into Epcot that early morning days ago, the guard there asked us if any of us remembered the Mickey Hand next to “Space Ship Earth,” the geodesic dome (crafted into a sphere by Disney Imagineers). We did. He went on to explain it was removed because some guest complained they didn’t like it. Then he warned us to be careful what we say to Disney, because they may act on it very quickly!

Of course, as soon as we could enter the park, Brenda and Roger “booked” for Toy Story Midway Mania. Brenda was the first guest of the day to get Fastpasses!

Then we went right through the line to the ride, and Brenda scored the high score for our vehicle! 143,300. Her highest score ever. Roger’s score was HIS highest, too. Brenda wasn’t quite quick enough on the draw to get a photo of the sign saying her score was best in vehicle, a mistake she wouldn’t make again.

Brenda's BIV

Brenda’s best score ever, Highest score we’ve ever achieved, AND Best In Vehicle!

Because later ROGER’s score was Best in Vehicle! The score was lower than Brenda’s, but the best in Vehicle for that trip.

Roger's BIV

Roger’s Best In Vehicle Score

Brenda captured the PROOF it was Best in Vehicle!

We’d love to share the sophisticated strategies we used to score these highest scores, but since we really don’t have any, we’ll just say the Midway Maniac MoJo was with us on this trip!

Because there were very light lines, Brenda and Roger went through the ride 3 times in a row, by which time their Fastpasses were active. So it was a great morning! We had gone through twice before 9 AM, the official start time of the park. All four trips were complete by 10 AM.

Next up was the Animation Academy, where we drew Tangled’s Flynn Rider.

No, this is NOT one of our drawings!

Then, we watched Beauty and the Beast.

And then walked back to Boardwalk for a quick lunch of leftovers, and out to the “Welcome Home Wednesdays Family BBQ.” We have never attended one of these events (well, except at Christmas when we go to the party). We got there and were greeted by our “Cousins.”

The Cousins we never knew

They had a series of games and competitions.

Balancing a Slinky on their heads (no one managed to do it)

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a picture of the “Oldly Weds” game, because we were contestants! Four tricky questions about cuisines your mate would choose–2 for Brenda about Roger, and 2 for Roger about Brenda. We did very well, but just missed the last question, which was a 2 pointer (rather than 1), and so we came in second. Not that it mattered, we all got the same prize–pins!

We agreed it was fun, but not anything on our “must do every time” list.

Then Downtown Disney, a few strategic purchases, ice cream sundaes for dinner, and back to rest up for tomorrow’s adventures at Magic Kingdom & Epcot!

EPCOT & Magic Kingdom in one day!!!

In Dreams Come True on May 7, 2013 at 8:22 pm

Today our day started off a bit on the bizarre side…  EPCOT had early magic hours, opening at 8.  When we take the bus to a park, we get there at least 30 minutes early, sometimes 45!!  Today we were able to walk to EPCOT.  We arrived at the International Gateway (also known as the back entrance) about 7 am!!  Gate locked…  Roger asked me if I had Boardwalk Inn’s phone number in my phone…   nnnoooo, why would I??!!!  We decided to walk back to find out if this gate would open early too.  Much to our happiness, along comes a cast member… a boat captain.  He said he has to be to work at the boat for 7:30, so the gate would have to be open by then.  And sure enough, the gate was opened at 7:30!

Roger & the Captain.

Roger & the Captain.

We enjoyed Soarin’ and got a fast pass.. like we always do.  Got a Fast Pass for the new & supposedly improved Fast Track by Chevy.  Neither of us are car people, and testing a car’s performance is really not in my realm of interest.  Now we’ve done it, probably won’t again!!!

We headed over to Magic Kingdom via the monorail, a new adventure for us.

We love going to the Monster’s Laugh Floor.  Roger was again picked on as “That Guy.”

That Guy!!!

That Guy!!!

We had a reservation at one of the new restaurants in the expanded Fantasyland, “Be Our Guest.”  It was quite good.  A limited menu, we started with French Onion Soup, basket of rolls — both excellent.  Roger chose the Roasted Cornish Hen and I the Strip Steak.  We divided each of our servings in half, giving it to each other, served with fresh veggies and either fries or potato wedges.   Both were excellent.

The Beast... my he's BIG!!

A Change of Plans

In Dreams Come True on May 6, 2013 at 8:45 pm

Today was Early Magic Hours (8 AM) at Animal Kingdom, so of course Brenda and I left Boardwalk at 7 AM for the park.

We weren’t the first to arrive, but we were very close to the front of the line.

While we waited to sprint (or walk sluggishly trying to keep up with Brenda) to the Kilimanjaro Safaris, Brenda suggested a change in our weekly schedule.

Basically that we walk to Epcot tomorrow morning (again Early Magic Hours starting at 8 AM). We had planned to go to Magic Kingdom, since we have 4 PM dinner reservations at the  “Be Our Guest” restaurant in the newly created Fantasyland expansion. We couldn’t get reservations on any other day, so we considered canceling and going some other time.

By then we were at the Safari, and Brenda accidentally discovered the “burst” feature on her camera, allowing her to “click-click-click-click” photos one right after another.

Brenda’s “burst” photos caught the Angoli Cattle (those horns are hollow and filled with blood vessels, helping keep the bovine cool in Africa’s–and Florida’s–hot weather) in various poses.

Next was breakfast at Pizzafari, where we decided to hit the high spots of Animal Kingdom (the high spots for us, you understand): one more safari, Festival of the Lion King, and Finding Nemo the Musical.

Safari 2: The lioness considers the tasty treats in our vehicle

Ah, Simba wasn’t on the rock with the lioness because he had to get ready for Festival of the Lion King

Roger’s favorite Animal Kingdom event: Finding Nemo the Musical

Roger eventually discovered the “burst” feature on HIS camera!

Watch that bubble!

Nemo! Blurry, sure, but definitely Nemo!

Then it was back to Boardwalk, a quick pickup of paper tubes, and a 10 minute walk to Disney Hollywood! First, a late lunch at the 50’s Prime Time Diner.

Brenda with meatloaf (the entree, not the singer); Roger with fried chicken (the exact same meals we ordered last time we were here!)

Then, a birthday surprise!

A complimentary birthday cupcake!

The ritual scraping off of the frosting

From there, we went to the Disney Drawing Academy–twice. Followed by standing in the regular line to get into Toy Story Midway Mania–TWICE! The first time they told us it would be an hour wait, but it was only 30 minutes. The second time they told us it was a 45 minute wait, but we got scooted ahead because we were a group of 2, so again, just 30 minutes! Both times Brenda carried the red “time” card.

Roger won game 1, Brenda won game 2. But we’ll be back!

We wrapped up our park day with Walt Disney, One Man’s Dream.

But we had done things differently!

  • We “Park Hopped”
  • We walked to Disney Hollywood”
  • We waited in the regular line for Toy Story Midway Mania

Yup, we’re shaking things up.

And that’s just on the first full day!

Who knows what crazy things we’ll do next?

Boardwalk May 2013

In Dreams Come True on May 5, 2013 at 8:12 pm

I call it our 2nd Anniversary of our Honeymoon of 2003.  Sounds confusing!!  Our honeymoon was in 2003, even though we got married in 2001.  We stayed at the Boardwalk!!  So here we are 10 years later @ Boardwalk… hence 2nd Anniversary of Honeymoon!!

We have arrived, safe & sound.  Trip to Manchester Airport was uneventful.. thankfully.  When we arrived here at Disney’s Boardwalk, our room wasn’t ready… sounds a bit familiar.  We had lunch reservations, originally for 1:15 at Les Chefs in France.  Roger asked what if we’re late?  so I was able to change it to 1:50.  We had to get our new Annual Passes at Guest Relations.  We had plenty of time, we hadn’t figured on the family at the window was there, no kidding, 15 minutes and that’s just while we were there, I don’t know how long they had been there before we arrived!!!  I never could figure out what their problem was!!

We arrived at Les Chefs @ 1 pm!!!  they were able to take us right away!!  It was quite good.

Brenda & Roger @ Les Chefs in France

We shopped the rest of the afternoon and wandered around World Showcase @ EPCOT.

Back to Boardwalk, our room was now ready, we got a pizza at the Pizza Shop (!!) on the Boardwalk as well as ice cream.

We tried to watch a dvd, but could not figure out.  Roger called the desk, the woman tried to help him & this still was not accomplished, she sent up a technician.  The tech could not get it to work either!!  Tomorrow someone will come in & figure out WTH is going on!!

To bed early… Tomorrow Animal Kingdom, early!!
